Keith and Kerry Johnson bought their 53-foot Huckins Yacht Corporation Linwood “Miramar” in July 2020, having finished a refit about two years later. The Ocean Reef Club’s December 2022 Vintage Weekend was their first chance to show off all their hard work, which culminated with winning the “Best Restoration” award. This mahogany-hull vessel can cruise at 14 knots and top out at 20 knots, with its recent Cummins upgrades, but Keith says the couple hasn’t dialed in “Miramar’s” new propellers yet; he hopes to achieve a 27-knot top hop.
Among the couple’s favorite upgrades to the 1967-built boat are the engines, Garmin electronics, connecting the salon to the dinette area and a dishwasher. Keith and Kerry will next spend a month in Key West before eventually taking on the Great Loop.
Our editor stepped aboard the Johnsons’ boat at the Ocean Reef Club during its 2022 Vintage Weekend in Key Largo, Florida.
“You look at the amazing work that people have put in and the passion everybody [at Vintage Weekend] has with what they’re doing, whether it’s the boats, the planes or the cars,” Kerry says. “You can see that everybody really, really cares about it, and they spent an amazing amount of energy in that.”
