It was late August in the Windy City and Buddy and I were preparing to unite with a lively group of Chicagoans who had enthusiastically contacted us, having heard about our cross-country travels in search of Huckins yachts still making waves. What made this trip all the more exciting was the opportunity to forge friendships with Huckins owners we had never previously met. Buddy and I relish these opportunities as they give us chances to share the history of each yacht and the company itself.

"I just cried because
I loved it so much."

Gorgeous weather greeted us as we joined eager Huckins owners at Belmont Harbor for a sunny morning cruise on Lake Michigan.

Liz Ware, the owner of 402, a 1970 65-foot Huckins Offshore, offered us a delicious lunch complete with fresh seafood, sushi and sandwiches. Liz told us she had seen 402 in the harbor and, upon hearing it would be on the market, knew she had to have her. Confessing love at first sight, Liz shared, “I just cried because I loved it so much.” She has owned 402 for about a year and adores her yacht now as much as ever.

Beautifully restored by the previous owner, 402 was in immaculate shape when Liz purchased it and today remains in pristine condition thanks to the routine maintenance she administers. All 65 feet of 402 are spotless. From its mahogany trim to the teak and holly floors, 402 bears testament to a legacy of fine craftsmanship. "Elegant and timeless" are the words Liz uses to describe not only hers but all Huckins yachts.

Liz bade us farewell by
saying, "I feel like I'm a part of your family."

Often cruising 402 back and forth to Mackinac Island, Liz Ware enjoys watching the famous Mackinac sailing races from on board. She couldn't be happier with her Huckins, and Buddy and I love knowing that hull #402 is fully alive and will be for many years to come.

We may have been strangers before the Chicago visit, but Liz bade us farewell by saying, "I feel like I'm a part of your family."

We couldn't be more delighted to have her. All Huckins yachts and owners belong to one big family, so it comes as no surprise to me that Liz feels like a member. I'm so glad we had the chance to meet her and see firsthand that she truly is enjoying one of my family's boats.
