Huckins Yacht Celebrates 80 Years Of Hand Crafted, One-Of-A-Kind Yachts
Huckins Yacht Corporation, world-renowned custom yachtbuilder, marks 2008 as its 80th year of legendary custom yachtbuilding. In recognition of almost a century of success, third generation owner Cindy Purcell hosted an 80th anniversary celebration on Saturday, May 17, at the Huckins Yard located in Jacksonville, Fla. The celebration highlighted 80 years of success – including the construction of 457 custom yachts, impeccable service of all yachts and the countless friends that were made along the way.
Recognized as one of the oldest continuously family-owned boatbuilders in the United States, Huckins Yacht Corporation has been a forerunner in the marine industry ever since the company’s founder, Frank Pembroke Huckins, developed the planing hull in 1928. At the onset of World War II, Frank designed and built the famous PT boats. The PT boats were designed for use by the Navy during special, top-secret operations.
Today, Huckins Yacht Corporation is led by Cindy and Buddy Purcell, who share Frank’s passion and commitment for the art of boatbuilding. At the Huckins Yard, the world’s finest craftsmen continue to build yachts, one-at-a-time, making each yacht a custom work of art. Huckins is not only known for its ability to create beautiful, classic and elegant yachts, but also for its use of state-of-the-art materials and world class performance.
Never afraid to push the engineering envelope, Huckins recently launched its first jet drive boat, a Linwood 56. The results were so favorable, two additional jet drive yachts have been commissioned – another Linwood 56 and the first Atlantic 44 jet drive. Both yachts will be completed later this year.
