Post War

After the war, Huckins satisfied a new generation of yachtsmen with a line of performance cruisers. Many of these boats are still cherished today by their owners for their speed and efficiency.

Everybody home from the war was great for the boat business. June 13, 1946 David Goodrich launched his third Fairform Flyer, the first boat out of Huckins new plant at the yards current location on the Ortega River.

The cast of characters at Huckins, at this time, would be the company’s management team for many years to come. There was Ray Teller, who Frank hired to be in charge of post war design. With war orders rapidly dwindling FPH knew that a post war designer would be key to the company’s future success. Another key character was George Pillsbury who later would become Vice President of Huckins. The last two members of the team who would join Frank Pembroke Huckins in keeping his dream alive were Henry Baldwin, the company’s president and salesman, and Kenneth Archibald (FPH step-son) who later became CEO and is still active in the company today.

Frank Pembroke Huckins died in 1951. Between 1951 and 1971 the company sold over 150 boats.
